Colposcopy and Pap smear

Pap smears and colposcopy are complementary studies which helps the timely detection of HPV Virus infections.

Colposcopy is a test that allows analysis of the uterus cervix in a maximized way, through the application of solutions it enables to make evident cervical an vaginal lesions, which in most of cases are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

The PAP on the other hand allows us to examine the cell of the cervix, allowing detecting abnormal cell.

How do I prepare for a colposcopy?

  • Set the study for a date that will not be present the menstrual period, for which is to better observe the cervix
  • Now what not to do, is be a douche, use tampons moments before the study, and intercourse at least in a period of 24 hours
