Ultrasounds pregnancy or Pregnancy sonograms

Consists on the use of sound high frequency waves, creating internal images of the body. The images captured through the ultrasound are created on real time; on them it is appreciated the internal body organ movement, as also the inside structure of it. In gynecology, tests by ultrasound are used to determine if a pregnancy exists and to observe its progress, in case of any.

In conducting a pregnancy sonogram or obstetric ultrasound, the patient is not exposed to ionizing radiation, as it is the case of radiographies also known as X rays.

The obstetric ultrasound or pregnancy sonogram provides the fetus or embryo’s images, located in the woman’s uterus, as well as the uterus itself and the woman’s ovaries. At the time of the obstetrical ultrasound conduction, the physician can evaluate the blood flow in the umbilical cord. Even in some occasions, it is possible to evaluate the blood flow in the placenta or in the fetus itself. It can be done in two ways: abdominal via or vaginal via.

Ultrasounds Vaginal

Known by some physicians as endovaginal ultrasound, it is done currently on patients whose pregnancy is on the first three months. It has the advantage to provide excellent quality, with the fact that it is not necessary to the bladder to be full to perform it.

Ultrasounds Abdominal

It is done on patients whose pregnancy is on the second and third trimester. It is also done on patients who had not had sexual intercourse and are in need for a uterus and ovaries evaluation.
